Geothermal energy – additional information
The worldwide consumption of energy has increased steadily over the last decades. Growing population and increasing standards of living in developing countries will place even more demand on energy resources. As concerns over carbon dioxide emission levels and their implication have grown, alternative energy sources started gaining traction. Many technologies have been developed to take advantage of clean and renewable energy resources, such as solar, wind or hydroelectric power, and geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is derived from heat from the Earth which is then converted into electricity. The Earth’s internal heat is produced by magma which is heated by its natural radioactive decay and can be used for the heating and cooling of buildings. Geothermal resources are generally considered as environmental friendly, clean and sustainable.
