Hotel market in Poland
The city with the most hotel rooms is Poland's capital - Warsaw, with over 5.7 thousand rooms more than the next city Krakow. Other popular cities include Gdansk, Wroclaw, and Poznan. While hotels are numerous in Warsaw, other tourist accommodation establishments constituted 53 percent in 2020. The number of hostels has increased as well. Just like in the country overall, the most common hotels in Warsaw are 3-star hotels. There are 85 more 3-star hotel rooms than 4-star ones in Warsaw in terms of hotel rooms. The hotel market in Poland is led by one chain group, namely Accor, with 84 hotels in 2021. Other successful chain groups include Polski Holding Hotelowy, Hilton, and Louvre Hotels.
COVID-19 impact on the hotel market in Poland
The year 2020 was significant for the hotel industry. The COVID-19 pandemic contributed to a deep crisis in the industry. As a result, all tourist regions in Poland recorded drastic drops in hotel occupancy rates. One in three hotel resorts recorded more than 50 percent declines in bookings, and the number of tourists in the second quarter of 2020 dropped by more than 80 percent compared to the same period last year. Also, the number of nights spent by tourists in Polish hotels declined significantly. In 2020, there was a 45 percent decrease in overnight stays compared to the previous year.
