Online Christmas shopping in the Netherlands on the rise

In total, consumers in the Netherlands are expected to spend approximately 13 billion euros in the last six weeks of 2016, an increase of 1.5 percent in comparison to 2015. This overall growth is primarily the result of increased online expenditure, which is forecast to rise from 1.5 billion euros in 2015 to 1.7 billion euros in 2016.

When looking at Christmas shopping expenditure in the Netherlands in more detail, tablet and smartphone sales stand out especially. Although the overall e-commerce revenue is still relatively small with a forecast combined turnover of 700,000 euros, smartphone sales are expected to increase by 61 percent in 2016, and tablet sales by an impressive 71 percent.
