Quarterly number of online shopping purchases in the Netherlands 2015-2022
The fourth quarter normally sees an increase in e-commerce spending due to the holiday season. The Netherlands celebrates Saint Nicholas (or "Sinterklaas") on December 5, by way of giving presents to (especially) children. As of 2018, the revenue of online retail during the Sinterklaas period in the Netherlands, reached over 300 million euros, which is higher than the average online shopping weekly revenue outside of the 'Sint' season. Consumers saw access to other consumers' reviews and home delivery as reasons to use online purchase channels for their Saint Nicholas or Christmas gifts.
