Industry revenue of »manufacture of electrical equipment for motor vehicles« in Romania 2011-2023

Although global motor vehicles sales have somewhat stagnated over the past few years, the automotive sector in Romania has witnessed steady growth, backed by the increase in production and exports. The country houses not only indigenous brands such as Dacia, Roman Brasov and Igero, but some of the biggest automotive manufacturers in the world such as Renault, Ford and Skoda have also established their plants in the country, owing to the favorable manufacturing conditions. This has resulted in an increase in car production, which amounted to over 490,000 units in 2019, according to data published by the Romanian Association of Automobile Producers. Consequently, production of equipment such as generators, alternators and spark plugs has also risen, and in turn revenues, which have grown three fold between 2011-2019.

Ford production impacted due to Covid-19 outbreak

Ford Romania was expecting record daily volumes of production in 2020, after the launch of its new Puma brand SUV. According to the initial projections, over 1000 vehicles were to be assembled on a daily basis. However, the goal looks a bit far-fetched in the small to medium term, as a countrywide lockdown has been issued in the country, owing to the outbreak of the corona virus. The manufacturer has been forced to halt all of its operations till at least the first week of May.
