According to the survey among residents in Shanghai in November 2018, 55 percent of respondents stated that an improved walkability and safety for pedestrians is crucial to improve the transport and mobility system in Shanghai. In Shanghai, one example of the city’s efforts to build a smart city was to support greener buildings, such as 'zero-carbon emission' buildings.
