
Costliest hurricanes in Cuba 2007-2021, by economic loss
Hurricane Irma, which hit Cuba in September 2017, caused an economic loss of more than 13 billion Cuban pesos, making it the costliest hurricane to hit the country in the period since 2007. Hurricane Ike, in September 2008, ranked second, with a total loss of 7.3 billion pesos, followed closely by hurricane Sandy (November 2012), with losses adding up to nearly seven billion pesos. In 2021, hurricanes Ida and Elsa entered the list, with 37.6 and 25.1 million pesos in economic loss, respectively.
