Number of SME employees in Belgium 2008-2023
Belgian SMEs employed over two million people in 2023, a figure that had increased especially in companies with nine employees or less. In comparison, the number of people in Belgium who were employed in 2018 was nearly 4.75 million. One should note, however, that the figures provided here do not include SMEs in finance or agriculture. Despite the influence of SMEs in the country's employment, Belgium faced an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent in 2020.
