Monthly DAM electricity sales volume in Greece 2020-2024
Greece sells an average of over 4.5 terawatt-hours of electricity on the day-ahead market every month. The volume of electricity sold in this country clearly shows a seasonal cycle: while the sales of electricity peak in July and January every year, accounting for the use of cooling or heating residential facilities, they drop in the spring and fall months. Summer 2022 was the hottest on record in Europe, and up to six terawatt-hours of electricity were purchased by Greek power trading companies. By comparison, the mild winter that followed led to 4.2 terawatt-hours of electricity sold in January 2023.
In April 2024, renewables contributed the most to Greece's electricity sales volume mix.
