In 2022, the ratio of prices received by farmers to the prices paid index for commodities and services, interest, taxes, and farm wage rates (PPITW) in the United States came to 96 percent of the base year 2011. The ratio of prices received to PPITW has been steadily declining since the base year, with 2020 being a new low. In other words, farmers were earning less after expenses in 2021 than they did in 2011.
