Wildfires are becoming more intense in the West as a result of hotter and drier nights. The number of annual flammable nights in the West in 2020 increased by roughly 45 percent in comparison to the figure recorded four decades earlier. Furthermore, the intensity of nighttime fires has also experienced an upward trend, increasing by 7.2 percent worldwide since 2003, and by nearly 28 percent in the West.
