Greece: wildfire area burned weekly 2023

Wildfires in Greece were more intense in 2023 when compared to the previous year. As of August 12, 2023, the area burned by wildfires totaled some 52,800 hectares. This was roughly 33,000 hectares more than the figure recorded in 2022. However, the worst wildfires happened during the 2021 summer season, when the burnt area rose to nearly 128,700 hectares, having more than tripled the average recorded between 2008 and 2022.
