IIn 2022, the authorities in Israel recorded over eight million departures abroad of Israeli citizens. This was a significant increase compared to the previous year. During the observed period, the number of departures gradually increased, except for the sharp decrease in 2020. Apparently, this decline occurred due to the introduction of travel restrictions by the Israeli government following the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in March of that year. The number of departures fell to about 1.5 million that year.
Flights most preferred way to travel
Flying remains the most popular mode of travel for Israelis traveling abroad, as travel by land is limited to visits to Egypt or Jordan. In 2021, just under 2.8 million Israeli travelers have left the country by air. By comparison, the total number of travelers who left the country by land and sea was approximately 245,000. This fact was also a factor in the high level of spending on online flight bookings. This spending reached over 767 million U.S. dollars in 2022.
