Breakdown of GHG emissions in Germany 2021, by sector and gas
Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas emitted in Germany, with the energy industry responsible for 35 percent of total CO2 emissions in 2021. The second-largest contributor to Germany's CO2 emissions that year was the transportation sector, at 22 percent. While agriculture only accounts for approximately one percent of CO2 emissions, it is by far the largest source of both nitrous oxide and methane emissions. Enteric fermentation is the largest source of methane emissions, while agricultural soils release the most nitrous oxide.
