Funding sources of health spending worldwide in 2019, by country income groups
In 2019, a 44 percent share of total healthcare spending in low income countries was funded from out-of-pocket spending, in comparison only 21 percent share of total health spending in countries classed high income was funded from out-of pocket spending. In general, low income countries relied significantly on out-of-pocket spending and external aid to finance their total health spending, whereas high income countries relied heavily on government sources.
