In 2022, the Asian country of Turkmenistan accounted for the dirtiest power grid for electricity production worldwide: 100 percent of this country's energy capacity came from fossil fuels. While the grid connected power capacity of Turkmenistan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Algeria was composed of natural gas at over 95 percent, the Bahamas was reliant on oil at 98.2 percent. The leading countries producing electricity from coal were Botswana and Moldova.
