Exports of recovered scrap paper from the U.S. 2015-2022
In 2022, the United States exported approximately 15.1 million tons of recovered waste and scrap paper and paperboard, a decline of around seven percent in comparison to the previous year. Paper scrap exports from the U.S. dropped considerably in 2019, after China - the main destination for exports at the time - imposed a series of restrictions on waste imports. India is now the leading destination for U.S. paper scrap exports.
