Curbside recycling is the most popular recycling program in the United States. In 2021, over 34 percent of U.S. population had access to curbside recycling services only, while an additional 25 percent had access to both curbside and drop-off recycling. When compared to other developed countries around the world, the recycling rate in the United States is rather low, especially in contrast to European countries such as Germany, Slovenia or Austria.
