According to a survey conducted with people with a (partly) Afro-Surinamese and/or (partly) Caribbean background in 2023, around two-thirds of those asked believed there will be sufficient recognition from the Dutch government for the involvement with slavery in the past when Keti Koti is recognized as a national holiday. Keti Koti is a national holiday in Suriname, celebrated on the first of July, marking the date when slavery was abolished.
