The Troubles: annual injuries 1968-2002, by affiliation
The Troubles not only saw the deaths of more than 3,500 people, but also saw a significant number of injuries during this time, especially among civilians. 1972, the peak year of the Troubles in terms of deaths, was also the peak year for injuries with almost 5,000 injuries recorded in this year alone. It is important to note, however, that a large share of injuries, particularly among paramilitary members (here included with civilians), would not have been recorded. The impact of shootings and bomb attacks meant that these injuries were often life altering, and many people still feel their impact to this day.
