Distribution of U.S. physicians 2012-2022, by type of practice
Over the decade between 2012 and 2022, the share of physicians who worked in a solo practice in the United States has decreased, while multi-specialty groups has increased. In 2022, approximately 42 percent of surveyed U.S. physicians worked in a solo practice. Conversely, about 27 percent worked in multi-specialty groups, which has increased from 22 percent in 2012.
