Global coal consumption change by region 2020
As the coronavirus pandemic resulted in a decrease in energy demand, there was a notable decline in the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal. In India, coal consumption fell by 27.8 percent in the second quarter of 2020 when compared to a year previous. However, by the fourth quarter, coal consumption in India, China, and the world overall had risen again.
