Global coal share in power mix 2021, by country

Mongolia has the highest share of coal in its power mix. In 2021, coal accounted for 88.3 percent of electricity production in the Asian country. The global average was 36.5 percent that same year. By comparison, neighboring China sourced 63.6 percent of its electricity from coal and also topped a ranking of coal-fired power generation worldwide by country.
