Diesel: monthly fuel price in Scotland 2015-2019 Since the beginning of 2015, the price of diesel fuel in Scotland has fluctuated significantly. Despite dropping to a low of 101.2 pence per liter in February 2016, prices increased in the preceding years and by October 2018 peaked at 136.7 pence per liter. During this period, Scottish drivers generally paid more than the UK average for diesel fuel.
Super unleaded the most expensive fuel

Although there has been a noticeable price increase in diesel since 2016, it remains cheaper than super unleaded fuel. The difference in price between diesel and super unleaded varied and unleaded could be as much as 10 pence per liter cheaper. However, by the end of 2018 the price gap began to decrease, and in February 2019 there was a difference of less than one pence per liter.

Global diesel price increase

It was not just Scotland and the United Kingdom that saw noticeable increases in the price of diesel fuel. Between April 2018 and April 2019, countries such as Spain and Germany saw the price of automotive diesel per liter increase by 6.9 and 5.6 percent respectively. However, the UK saw the largest change in price at 7.1 percent. There are numerous reasons behind the varying prices of fuel, such as decreased production, political sanctions such as those imposed on Iran by the US, and restrictions on supply. Factors like these increase the cost of a barrel of oil, which in turn increases the price of fuel.
