The United Kingdom and Portugal had one of the highest prices for automotive diesel in 2020. That year, diesel prices in these countries averaged 1.44 U.S. dollars per liter. Generally, diesel prices were higher in Northern and Western European countries due to higher tax rates. By comparison, drivers in the United States paid 0.77 U.S. dollars per liter.
