This statistic displays the percentage of primary Sjögren syndrome patients in the U.S. and EU that frequently used healthcare resources in the past six months, between 2011 and 2013. Some 19 percent of primary Sjögren syndrome patients in the United States visited an emergency room in the past six months. Sjögren's syndrome is characterized by a person's white blood cells attacking moisture-producing glands which can cause dry eyes and mouth, as well as fatigue and joint pains. This condition is considered a chronic autoimmune disease.
