Finland: international visitor arrivals 2022

Till December 2022, there were around 11.5 million international visitor arrivals in all accommodation establishments in Finland. The biggest groups of international tourists came from Germany with over 262 thousand, followed by Sweden, United States and the United Kingdom.

The number of international visitor arrivals dropped due to the COVID-19 outbreak

From January to April 2021, the number of international visitors stayed low as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. By June, international visitor arrivals slightly increased from the previous months, but remained on a low level compared to the previous years. These changes are also displayed in the number of arrivals in tourist accommodations in Finland.

The COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on national and international tourism in Finland

International travel restrictions and precautionary measures to stop the global COVID-19 pandemic also led to decreasing overnight stays of international tourists in Finland. On March 19, 2020 Finland closed its borders for unnecessary travel and began to restrict cross-border traffic. This also had a negative impact on travel plans of the Finnish population.
