Number of petrol/fuel stations in Europe by country 2021
Petrol station decline
In many European countries, the number of petrol stations is decreasing. In Germany, for example, the number of available stations decreased by more than half from 1970 to 1990, with a further 4,900 stations closing between 1990 and 2021. The number of outlets in 2021 was even lower than the number of operational petrol stations in 1950.Figures also declined in the United States, although the country is still home to an impressive number of petrol stations, when compared to European totals. In 2017, there were approximately 115,370 gas stations in the North American country.
