In 2018, test drivers in Waymo vehicles in California covered almost 1.3 million miles in autonomous mode and had to take over control of their vehicles some 114 times, meaning that there were 0.09 disengagements per 1,000 miles driven. Meanwhile, test drivers in Uber vehicles had a much more interesting job: Uber reported over 2,600 disengagements per 1,000 miles driven.
