Number of farms with horses in Denmark 2010-2020

In Denmark, there were more than 4.6 thousand farms with horses as of 2020. This was a slightly decrease compared to the previous year, where it amounted to around five thousand. By comparison, the number of horses on farms increased from 2019 to 2020. It grew from almost 42 thousand animals in 2019 to nearly 43 thousand animals in the year that followed.

Horse meat

   In the period from 2009 to 2019, the average producer prices of horse meat fluctuated. It decreased slightly from approximately 8.8 thousand Danish kroner per metric ton in 2009 to around 8.5 thousand Danish kroner per metric ton in 2019. With an average horse meat producer price of around six thousand Danish kroner per metric ton, it was lowest in 2011.

 International trade 

By the end of October 2018, Denmark exported live horses as well as asses, mules and hinnies valued at 5.34 million U.S. dollars. That year, this was the month with the highest export value. The import value of horses and the like into the country was also highest in October and amounted to 4.91 million U.S. dollars.
