
Volume of new ship orders by major ship types 2011-2016
This statistic illustrates the annual numbers of new ship orders worldwide by major ship type from 2011 to 2016. From 2011 to 2015 the annual volume of new ship orders of tankers increased from 380 new tankers in 2011 to 614 new tankers in 2015. During the same timeframe, the order of new bulk carriers increased from 2011 to 2014 from 500 new carriers to 716 new carriers but declined afterwards to 357 new bulk carriers in 2015. In the first half of 2016 60 new tankers, 34 new bulk-carriers, 36 container ships, 22 new general cargo-ships and 37 new passenger ships were ordered.
