In the fiscal year 2021 (ranging from October 2020 to September 2021), the United States was the origin or destination for 72.5 percent of the total incoming and outgoing cargo passing through the Panama Canal. China accounted in some capacity for a share of 22.1 percent of traffic through the Canal that year.
