The greatest single source of income to the university was through research grants and contracts, having gained 466 million British pounds in the year ending July 31, 2017. In 2016/17, income through examination and assessment services amounted to 412 million British pounds, compared with 312 million British pounds in 2015/16. Overall, total income had increased from roughly 1.6 billion in 2015/16 to 1.76 billion British pounds in the most recent surveyed time period.
