In 2020, the room occupancy rate of accommodation facilities in Tokyo amounted to 32.4 percent. The COVID-19 pandemic negatively influenced the tourism industry in Japan. Lodging establishments in metropolitan areas were especially caused damage by the pandemic. Next to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto also reported low occupancy rates, even if the general decline in lodging guests is taken into account.
