In 2023, Oita Prefecture had the highest room occupancy rate of city hotels among all Japanese prefectures with around 74.3 percent. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, city hotel occupancy rates declined significantly, especially in metropolitan areas such as Tokyo and Osaka but recovered in 2023.
