In 2019, there were 1,118 reported acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases among males in Peru and 241 cases among women. The number of reported cases decreased substantially in 2020 in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with figures reaching less than half what they did in recent years.
