In 2019, there were 1,226 reported acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases among males in Peru and 271 cases among women. The number of reported cases decreased substantially in 2020 and 2021 in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with figures reaching less than half what they had in recent years. As of the last year depicted, Peru accounted for 3.2 percent of AIDS-related deaths in Latin America.
