This statistic shows the per capita amount of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste generated in Italy in 2017, broken down by macro-region. According to data, the non-hazardous special waste generated in the North of Italy amounted to over 2.6 tons per capita, more than ten times the figure for the hazardous waste generated in the same macro-region. By contrast, residents of the South generated on average 2.1 tons of non-hazardous waste and 86 kilograms of hazardous waste per capita.
