In 2018, approximately 29 thousand new cases of leprosy were registered in the region. The highest number of new cases was reported in Brazil, with a total of 26,875 cases. Present in 27 countries in the American continent, leprosy - also known as Hansen's disease - is a curable chronic infectious disease.
