About This Statistic
This statistic depicts the chronology of Ebola virus disease outbreaks from 1976 up to 2016, by country, number of cases and deaths, and the percentage of case fatalities. In a 2005 Congo outbreak there were 12 cases of Ebola and 10 deaths. The Ebola virus causes extremely severe hemorrhagic fever and is considered a Risk Group 4 Pathogen by the World Health Organization (WHO). The health sector will focus on cross-border regions to strengthen treatment, testing, and contact tracing.
