Number of public sector employees in the civil service UK 1999-2022
There were around 1.15 million people working as in the public administration roles in the United Kingdom as of the fourth quarter of 2022, of which 515,000 worked for the civil service. Between 2007 and 2017 the number of employees in public administration roles fell significantly, with a recent uptick noticeable from 2018 onwards.
