In March 2024, the fiscal headroom forecast in the United Kingdom was 8.9 billion British pounds, compared with 13 billion pounds in November 2023. Fiscal headroom is the amount of money the UK government can use to increase spending or cut taxes while still adhering to fiscal rules regarding national debt falling in the future.

"For comparability with headroom against the current fiscal mandate, past headrooms have been calculated in per cent of GDP as forecast at the time and multiplied by our latest forecast for nominal GDP in 2028-29. For November 2016, we have used the Chancellor's headroom against his proposed mandate at the time."
