Sports betting in the United States

A Statista DossierPlus on the sports betting industry in the U.S.

Sports betting in the United States The United States has a complex history with sports betting. After an almost decade long court battle it was deemed legal by the Supreme Court of the United States in May 2018.

However, while sports betting is now legal on a federal level, each U.S. state can see fit to do as it pleases. The emerging market is therefore complicated, as sports betting laws and regulations differ on a state-by-state basis. The legal status of sports betting in each state ranges from live and legal to illegal with no legislation in the pipeline.

As a result, it can be hard for businesses, investors, and even the consumer to know where they stand with this developing industry.

This DossierPlus ultimately looks to untangle some of the complexity of the emerging sports betting market in the U.S. by giving a clear overview of its current state and examining what the future may hold.
