Economic development in Africa report 2020

Tackling illicit financial flows for sustainable development in Africa

This report, published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), presents a comprehensive overview of the influence of illicit financial flows on Africa's economic development. Estimates suggest that every year Africa loses over 50 billion U.S. dollars due to illicit trafficking of money and financial assets across borders. Thus, this report investigates possible solutions to this issue, also exploring the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which started officially in January 2021.
