Landscaping services in the U.S. - statistics & facts
Basic landscaping services and rising levels of employment
Roughly 80 percent of companies in the landscape industry offered landscape maintenance services in North America in 2023. This service constitutes the bulk of landscaping amenities offered in this industry, which include basic maintenance such as lawn care and mowing. With these services in such high demand, the number of landscaping and groundskeeping workers increased by roughly 15,000 between 2022 and 2023, with mean annual wages also increasing year-on-year since 2013. This could suggest a saturated market for basic landscaping services, implying that leading landscaping companies in North America should diversify their range of services in order to further increase their already significant combined revenue that was generated in 2023. This figure increased by almost seven billion U.S. dollars since 2020, an impressive increase in an ever-growing industry.A small and diverse industry in the United States
In the United States, the landscaping services industry is composed of many smaller companies scattered across the country. For instance, two of the largest and most populous states in California and Texas were home to 33 leading landscaping companies. While being numerous and having a nationwide presence, landscaping firms are quite heterogenous in terms of revenue. BrightView have been the company that has consistently generated the highest revenue in the United States, and recorded an annual revenue of 2.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. Another big earner has been TruGreen, who accumulated 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2023.As the landscaping services industry in the United States has continued to grow exponentially since 2020, it should be considered as to why this is happening. There has been a significant backlog of jobs owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst at the same time an economic boom has taken place in the industry revenue of real estate and rental leasing in the United States. As populations have wanted to make their homes more appealing to potential buyers or renters, this has created impressive revenue for the landscaping services industry. Combine these factors with the influence of climate change and the desire to rewild, using hardier species, and tree plantation to absorb CO2, the landscape services industry is showing no signs of slowing down.
