More males born in Ireland but women living longer
2016 Irish Census
Last Thursday, the Irish Central Statistics Office released its 2016 census. It found that the population of the Republic of Ireland increased 3.8 percent between 2011 and 2016 with the overall population hitting 4,761,865. As part of The Journal's coverage of the census, Statista made the following infographic. It shows that due to higher male birth rates, more males than females can be found in younger age groups.
