The state of Mexico is the most populated region in Mexico, being home to around 13.4 percent of the country's total population. In 2020, approximately 17.07 million people lived in the state of Mexico, whereas 9.23 million resided in the country's capital, Mexico City. The state with the lowest number of inhabitants was Colima, with around 734,400 residents.
