Bank's market share of total loans in Norway 2022, by type of lender

The largest bank in Norway in 2022, in terms of loans granted to customers was DNB Bank. The bank held 28 percent of private customer loans and 30 percent of corporate loans. The bank was also the largest in terms of deposits from customers, both private and corporate, holding 33 percent of private customer deposits and 36 percent of corporate customer deposits of the country’s total.

   Private mortgage loans registered the largest share of loans in Norway in 2022, representing almost half of total bank loans. Corporate loans accounted for the second largest share, which was 26 percent. Among the corporate debtors, the commercial and industrial real estate sector was the largest share, accounting for 46 percent of total loans granted by banks.

Leading banks for large corporations

   DNB was also the leading bank for large corporations in Norway as of 2022, when they had a market penetration rate of 90 percent. The following leading banks for large corporations in the country that year were branches of foreign banks: the Finland-based Nordea, the Danish Danske Bank, and the Swedish SEB.
