Leading banks in Norway 2019, by total assets

Norwegian bank DNB was by far the leading bank in Norway in 2018. The bank had total assets worth around 2.1 trillion Norwegian kroner that year. The following two leading banks in the country were Sparebankar, which are Norwegian savings banks. There was a total of 136 banks in Norway in 2019, and most of them were Sparebankar, amounting to 95.

    There is no other bank in Norway comparable to the size of DNB, especially when comparing to other Norwegian banks. DNB was the largest bank in Norway in terms of loans granted to both private and corporate customers, reaching a market share of 31 percent in the corporate market and granting 27 percent of all private loans It was also the leading bank for large corporations in Norway in 2020, with a market penetration rate of 95 percent.

   The most common type of bank loans in Norway in 2019 was private mortgage loans. Mortgage loans accounted for almost half of all the bank loans in Norway that year, with 46 percent. The second largest share of loans was corporate loans, with around 26 percent.
