What is the TSE Mothers?
Mothers, an acronym for Market of the High-growth and Emerging Stocks, is a market section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Established in 1999, it lists high growth potential companies and startups that intend to list on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in the future. The TSE Mothers Index measures the market development since 2003. Mothers has been the leading market regarding the number of initial public offerings (IPOs) on the Tokyo Stock Exchange over the past years.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange
The Tokyo Stock Exchange currently consists of four market segments, the First and Second Section, Mothers, and the JASDAQ that is divided into JASDAQ Growth and Standard. In addition, there is a fifth market segment for professional investors, the Tokyo Pro Market. Following a call for a reduction in the number of markets on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by Japan’s primary financial regulator, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), a restructuring of the market segments is scheduled for April 2022.
