Finland: tourism participation by age group 2018

Travelers from Finland preferred to travel to both local and foreign destinations during 2018. The share of people participating in outbound tourism exclusively however was lower than the share taking exclusively domestic trips. These trends were similar for all the age groups, apart from in the 65 and over group, in which more chose a domestic trip over a combination of trips locally and abroad - 30 percent and 16 percent, respectively.

The source adds the following information: "This collection covers national tourism. Data is collected by the competent national authorities of the Member States and is compiled according to a harmonised methodology established by EU regulations before transmission to Eurostat.
Most of the time, data on domestic and outbound trips (where "outbound tourism" means residents of a country travelling in another country) is collected via sample surveys. However, in a few cases the data are compiled from border surveys. Surveys are generally conducted on a monthly or quarterly basis."
